    50 years of wedded bliss

This past weekend, Abigail, my mom and I flew to Mississippi. We surprised my grandparents on their 50th wedding anniversary. Both of them started to cry when we walked in. What a legacy these two have led in their 50 year of marriage. They have 3 daughters, my mom is the oldest, 7 grandkids, I am the second to oldest by 3 days, and 1.5 greatgrandkids, which our my 2 daughters. Not to mentions the tons of cousins, 2 cousins, 3 cousins, nephews, nieces and all of their children grandchildren and beyond, this is Ms and they mostly all live in the same city so you get to know your extended family well.

They both tell the story of their first meeting. My grandfather was in the National Guard and his buddy and him went downtown looking for girls. My grandmother and her friend happened to be leaning out the 2 story window of a building downtown when they drove by. They made their first date, which neither of them remember what they did, and from then on my grandfather got weekend leave and headed to see my grandmother. It was my grandfather who press my grandmother in to marriage and she finally agreed, they were married in my greatgrandparents living room and the rest was history.
They still live in the home he built 50 years ago on the road he grew up on named for his family. Of course the home has been added to and taken away from over the years, but the basic structure is still their.

This is my mother and her sisters. Can you guess which one is my mom, the one on the left. I pray I am this happy and excited about life and marriage 47 years from now. They truly are a sweet couple and wonderful grandparents and greatgrandparents.
